Knee: Total Knee Arthroplasty Featuring the new Vanguard ™ Knee System from Biomet, Inc. ®

On Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005 at 7pm EST (00:00 UTC / 8:00 am China 23.3.05),witness Adolph Lombardi, Jr., MD, FACS, perform a total knee replacement using the new Vanguard™ Complete Knee System with innovative Premier™ instrumentation from Biomet Orthopedics, Inc

Beginning with the AGC®, and continuing with the Maxim® and Ascent™, Biomet's total knee systems have a rich clinical heritage. With the introduction of the Vanguard™ Complete Knee System, Biomet has taken this proven clinical heritage and combined it with state-of-the-art design features to produce the most comprehensive total knee system available today.

With the Microplasty® and Premier™ instrumentation platforms and advancements such as our patented Slidex™ Technology, the Vanguard™ Complete Knee System is the surgeon's ally in exceeding the demands of today's active joint replacement patient.

The Vanguard™ total knee offers a swept back femoral component with a deepened trochlear groove that does not require additional bone cuts. The longer trochlear groove allows the patella to stay in the groove further into flexion before it transitions out of the groove and onto the condyles. This design supports the patella and is much friendlier to the patella tendon. Furthermore, the Vanguard™ knee offers full interchangeability throughout its nine femoral and nine tibial sizes.

Dr. Lombardi is Clinical Assistant Professor Biomedical Engineering as well as Clinical Assistant Professor Orthopedic Surgery for The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio. Furthermore, Dr. Lombardi is President Elect of Medical Staff Services at New Albany Surgical Hospital in New Albany, Ohio.

Moderating the event will be Keith Berend, MD, Clinical Assistant Professor Orthopedic Surgery as well as Director Division Of Adult Reconstruction – Department of Orthopedics, The Ohio State University. The procedure will take place at New Albany Surgical Hospital in New Albany, Ohio. New Albany Surgical Hospital is a specialty hospital focused on inpatient and outpatient orthopedic, neurologic and musculoskeletal care.
